Iron oxide films which were synthesized via the sol-gel route from the iron (III) chloride precursor exhibit electrochromism (Tb – Tc equals 55% at 400 nm) in LiOH (0.01 M) electrolyte.

We report on the structural, optical and magnetic properties of iron oxide films that were electrochemically cycled in a LiOH aqueous solution. We found that the electrochromic phenomenon is linked to the transformation of the film morphology; it goes from round-shaped particles to platy morphology. Additionally, the following phenomena were observed: a gradual blue shift of the optical …

1/1/2019  · Flexible electrochromic organo-tungsten-iron oxide (WFe x O y C z) films are rapidly deposited onto flexible (60 ?/ polyethylene terephthalate/indium tin oxide; PET/ITO) substrates by a low temperature-atmospheric pressure-plasma polymerization method with an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) for a short exposed duration of 48 s.

The oxides of the following transition metals are electrochromic: cerium, chromium, cobalt, copper, iridium, iron, manganese, molybdenum, nickel, niobium, palladium, praseodymium, rhodium,.

It is proposed that the adsorbed sulfate residues lead to the enhanced electroactivity of the iron oxide films by retarding crystallization and dehydration of the films. The high charge capacity and nearly optical passiveness of the iron oxide films suggest their promising applications as counter-electrodes in electrochromic devices.

Electrochromic (sometimes called electrochromatic) devices are one kind of electrochromic cells. The basic structure of ECD consists of two EC layers separated by an electrolytic layer. The ECD works on an external voltage, for which the conducting electrodes are used on the either side of both EC layers.

High-porosity amorphous films of WO3 were synthesized by the rapid photodecomposition of solution-deposited tungsten chloride precursor films. These films displayed exceptional electrochromic performances. This method is scalable and can be extended to other metal oxide layers, thereby opening up a new avenue for the development of high-performance electrochromic films for smart windows.

The electrochromic device of claim 1 including a second ion blocking-electron conducting layer on said second transparent electrode layer preventing ion transport into said second transparent electrode layer. 3. The electrochromic device of claim 1 wherein said first ion blocking-electron conducting layer comprises zinc oxide , cadmium oxide or …

Smart glass or switchable glass (also smart windows or switchable windows in those applications) is a glass or glazing whose light transmission properties are altered when voltage, light, or heat is applied. In general, the glass changes from transparent to translucent and vice versa, changing from letting light pass through to blocking some (or all) wavelengths of light and vice versa.
